Tokyo’s Best
Cocktail Bars

︎

Bar TRENCH | Ebisu

Located in an unassuming side street in Ebisu, Bar TRENCH has quickly catapulted itself to become one of Tokyo’s most popular bars for cocktail aficionados — and for good reason. The tiny 23sqm bar boasts an outstanding menu devoted to herbal and absinthe cocktails, ranked from low to high alcohol content, and with each drink the unparalleled skills of TRENCH’s bar tenders becomes more apparent. During the warm months, crowds will spill out into the street, making for a wonderfully laid-back atmosphere, and paired with one of TRENCH’s carefully crafted drinks in hand, it’s not hard to imagine why this bar is consistently ranked as one of Asia’s best.

Bar TRIAD and Bar TRENCH ANNEX just around the corner, where equally delicious signature cocktails draw crowds late into the night.

The Bellwood | Shibuya

Another consistent contender in Asia’s Best Bar list, The Bellwood is not just an amazing representative of Tokyo’s top-notch cocktail scene, but also a beautiful gem for any interior design lover. Taking the concept of Taisho-era’s “Kissa” (café) culture, this bar is themed around a time in Japanese history, when modern, Western culture became a fixture in Tokyo’s culinary and architectural landscape. The Bellwood’s consistently delicious cocktail menu reflects this unique part of modern Tokyo history and will leave any cocktail-enthusiast wanting to come back for more.

Bonus: For an even more in-depth experience, visit for the Cocktail Kaiseki (cocktail course), or spend an evening at Bell Sushi, The Bellwood’s contemporary take on sushi, which come paired with delicious cocktails. More info through instagram below.

Aman Tokyo | Otemachi

‘The Lounge by Aman’ is a must-see and must-visit bar, lounge and fumoir with almost unrivaled city views during any time of the day, and also one of our favorite cocktail hotspots. Part of the luxury hotel ‘Aman Tokyo’, this sky bar specializes in drinks that fuse traditional Japanese flavors in a modern, signature cocktail menu that changes throughout the seasons. The stellar view makes up for  a price tag that will make even luxury travelers’ credit cards smoulder, but the Aman is and remains one of Tokyo’s top bars to visit for travelers and locals alike.

Tip: Visit in the late afternoon to catch one of the best sunsets in town (including a view of Mount Fuji if you’re there during the cold season)

The SG Club | Shibuya

Voted as no. 10 of the World’s Best Bars in 2020 and no. 3 of Asia’s Best Bars in 2021— for many, The SG Club is the first place that comes to mind when speaking of Tokyo’s best cocktail bars. Featuring not just one, but three bars across three floors, sip your way through the various menus of vintage-inspired, signature cocktails and you will know why The SG Club has already become a legend in Tokyo’s cocktail scene. The bars’ late 19th Century Japanese & American inspired, speakeasy atmosphere is reflected throughout the interior fittings, with a New York gang-style basement bar — fully fitted with a shoe-shine station — as well as a members-only cocktail and cigar lounge on the second floor, transporting you straight back into a different time in history.

Sky Lounge Stellar Garden | Shibakoen

No photo can capture the stunning view that overwhelms you when you enter Sky Lounge Stellar Garden on the 33rd floor of The Prince Park Tower Hotel Tokyo. Few skybars in Tokyo take you as close to Tokyo’s magical nightscape, and perhaps it’s Stellar Garden’s unique 180 degree window view - perched in front of Tokyo Tower -  that makes you feel like you are right in the middle of it all.

Be sure to take a seat at one of the window seats at sunset (having a reservation is handy here) and take in the breathtaking view as the sun sets over central Tokyo and slowly gives way to that nighttime sparkle we all love so much about the city. If you are lucky and arrive on a clear day (especially during the cold season) you might even catch a glimpse of Mount Fuji while you sip on one of the bar’s wonderfully delicous cocktails.

TWO ROOMS | Aoyama

While TWO ROOMS might not be atop as tall of a skyscraper as some of the other locales in this list, the views over the low-built Omotesando neighborhood however, could not make for a more beautiful evening. Especially during summer nights, TWO ROOM’s terrace is one of Tokyo’s must-go-to spots for a relaxed dinner or a late-night drink atop the roofs of Tokyo, while the inside bar boasts a solid menu of signature and classic cocktails, perfect for a low-key glam night-out.
