Toraya | Tokyo Midtown

虎屋

This beautiful shop nestled in between the hustle and bustle of Tokyo Midtown’s Galleria, is one of the flagship stores of Toraya, a venerable manufacturer of Japanese traditional sweets (wagashi) with a history dating back to 16th century Kyoto. While just one of many locations in the Tokyo area, Toraya’s Midtown branch enchants through its beautifully modern, yet traditional design, displaying its intricate confectionary like little artworks rather than just sweets. The left side of the showroom also acts as a small exhibiton space which usually shows traditional and modern Japanese handicrafts and design tableware for sale.  If you can’t wait to try some of Toraya’s creations, then head over to the adjacent café which serves up Japanese teas, desserts and of course Toraya’s famous wagashi.
